As we have started to find out, the idea of a fleet of pirates with SOL is probably not going to happen without considerable effort. The more likely scenario is that all of us will be in the strongest and fastest default ship we can own and occasionally bag an SOL with a wolf pack.
With that in mind, the two prong attack would need to be revised just a bit. Capt Worley already talked about this in another thread, but we should talk about it here too.
Each member will be working to get into the next classification of ship that will be their default ship. Meaning, when you get sunk, you will start back at port with your basic ship for that classification. Chances are that most of us will be in the same type of ship, trying to do the same type of things.
The wolf pack mentality I think is going to be the solid foundation for survivability on the open seas as a pirate in this game and for that, I think the guilds are going to have a significant advantage. Sailing with numbers of ships is inherently safer than going it alone.
As a pack, the two pronged attack still applies. One set of ships designed primairly to disable the target and one set to focus on armor depletion and hull damage.
With each member of the pack knowing what their role is from the begining, it will help to end the battle in shorter time.
Organization and communication are key here. This is why its important to know what your role is BEFORE you engage or are engaged in battle. Once that is established, each part of the pack can work together to get the job done.
Remember, if you are going to capture the ship, the team will want to concentrate more on chain and swivel shots. Perhaps there could be select ships within our fleet that are set up for this role more than others. I wouldnt expect a sloop with all swivel guns, but something along those lines as your second ship might be a good idea.
